Monitoring Desk: Bilawal Bhutto Denies Engagement, Marriage Rumours, Calls Social Media Claims a ‘Tamasha’. Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has categorically denied reports of his engagement and marriage, dismissing social media claims about his alleged relationship with an Austrian royal family as false and saying no such development has taken place.
In a video statement, Bilawal said that if any such decision concerning his personal life was ever made, his family would make the announcement themselves.
“Social media has already fixed my match, got me engaged and even married me,” Bilawal said, rejecting the reports and adding that he did not even know anyone named “Princess Gloria.”
Bilawal described the circulating reports as a “social media tamasha”, alleging that such speculation was being used to divert public attention from more serious issues facing the country.
The PPP chairman then shifted his focus to the deaths of 14 children in the recent PIMS incident in the federal capital, questioning the government’s handling of the tragedy.
He also criticised a federal minister, accusing him of wanting to become the “Gorbachev of Pakistan” and alleging that the minister wanted to divide the country into 30 pieces.
Bilawal further questioned the minister’s ability to manage a hospital, while referring to his reported remarks to businessmen in Lahore regarding the creation and running of new provinces.
The PPP chairman said the remarks had come at a time when the Sindh Assembly was taking what he described as a courageous position on the issue.
The denial came after reports circulated on social media and in some media outlets claiming that Bilawal and his father, President Asif Ali Zardari, were in Vienna for discussions with an Austrian family regarding Bilawal’s possible engagement.
Some reports went further, linking Bilawal’s alleged prospective bride to the Austrian former royal family, the House of Habsburg-Lorraine.
Other reports claimed that the woman was connected to the family of Austria’s last emperor, Karl I.
Bilawal’s video statement, however, rejected the entire narrative, making clear that neither an engagement nor a marriage had taken place and that any genuine decision regarding his marriage would be formally announced by his family.
The remarks effectively put to rest the speculation surrounding the PPP chairman’s alleged engagement and marriage, while also highlighting Bilawal’s criticism that the social media discussion had diverted attention from political and national issues.
