ISLAMABAD: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has condemned attacks by the Houthi group targeting Makkah and the Madinah region, reaffirming solidarity with Saudi Arabia and support for measures to protect holy sites and civilian lives.
The OIC General Secretariat said the attacks, along with the group’s continuing aggression against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, were a serious violation of the sanctity of holy sites and mosques and had provoked the sentiments of Muslims around the world.
The General Secretariat said the attacks had also instilled fear among innocent civilians and targeted or threatened civilian infrastructure, stressing that holy sites and mosques must be protected from any form of aggression.
It said acts committed by the Houthi group against holy sites, mosques and civilian infrastructure were contrary to Islamic values and international norms, principles and law.
The OIC stressed that any violation of the sanctity of holy sites was unacceptable and intolerable, calling for the perpetrators to be deterred and for efforts to prevent anyone from attempting to infringe upon the sacred places.
The General Secretariat reaffirmed its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and expressed support for all measures taken by the Kingdom to deter the attackers, preserve the sanctity of the holy sites and protect the lives of Muslims.
It also reiterated its support for Saudi Arabia’s efforts to protect its security and sovereignty amid the ongoing aggression.
