ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s technology sector is rapidly expanding its footprint in international markets as rising IT exports, new company registrations and digital infrastructure strengthen the country’s emerging digital economy.

Pakistan’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector recorded a 19.7% year-on-year increase in ICT export remittances during fiscal year 2025-26, reflecting growing international demand for Pakistani technology products and services.

The country’s ICT sector generated a trade surplus of $2.91 billion during the period, highlighting its growing contribution to economic activity and foreign exchange generation.

The expansion of the technology sector is also reflected in the growing number of businesses entering the IT and IT-enabled services market. As many as 872 new companies related to IT and IT services were registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), indicating increasing entrepreneurial activity in the sector.

Pakistani technology companies, digital agencies and e-commerce businesses are increasingly seeking opportunities beyond the domestic market, with firms targeting international clients, partnerships and investment opportunities.

The growing international outreach of Pakistani technology businesses was also evident from the participation of more than 20 Pakistani companies in an international exhibition held in Saudi Arabia. Their participation provided local technology businesses with an opportunity to showcase their products and services and explore commercial opportunities in one of the region’s major markets.

The development comes as Pakistan’s IT sector seeks to strengthen its position in global digital markets by expanding exports and building international business linkages.

The Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) is also playing a role in promoting the growth of Pakistan’s IT sector, digital economy and investment landscape.

Developments in financial infrastructure are further supporting the sector by facilitating payments in international currencies, receiving foreign payments and managing international funds, thereby helping technology-oriented businesses conduct cross-border transactions.

The combination of rising ICT exports, the establishment of new IT companies, increasing participation in international exhibitions and improvements in digital and financial infrastructure is providing a stronger foundation for Pakistan’s digital economy.

With Pakistani technology companies increasingly targeting international markets, the expanding IT sector is emerging as an important avenue for export growth, digital entrepreneurship and greater integration of Pakistan’s technology industry with the global economy.
