ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has received its second LNG cargo from Qatar this month, with LNG carrier Shandong Redwood berthing at the PGPL terminal on Wednesday morning under a long-term supply agreement.
The LNG carrier arrived at the Pakistan GasPort Limited (PGPL) terminal after sailing from Qatar, marking the second Qatari LNG cargo received by Pakistan during September.
The latest cargo was procured under Pakistan’s long-term LNG supply agreement with Qatar, under which the LNG price is linked to 13.37pc of the Brent crude oil price.
The arrival comes as Pakistan continues to rely on LNG supplies to meet its energy requirements, particularly for the power sector. The additional cargo is expected to provide some relief to the power sector by supporting gas availability for electricity generation.
Sources said Pakistan had contacted Iran regarding safe passage for the LNG cargo amid continuing concerns over shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, which remains an important route for regional energy supplies.
The Strait of Hormuz continues to be significant for Pakistan’s LNG supply chain, with disruption to shipping through the strategic waterway posing potential risks to the timely arrival of imported energy cargoes.
The latest Qatari cargo adds to Pakistan’s LNG supplies at a time when the country is closely managing fuel availability for power generation and other sectors.
