ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has extended the deadline for filing income tax returns for Tax Year 2026 by 15 days to October 15, providing additional time to taxpayers who were originally required to file their returns by September 30.

According to Circular No. 3 of 2026-27 issued by the FBR, the extension was granted following requests from various trade bodies and tax bar associations.

Under the revised deadline, taxpayers whose income tax returns for Tax Year 2026 were due on September 30 will now be able to file their returns by October 15, 2026.

The FBR exercised powers conferred on it under Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, to extend the filing deadline.

The extension came hours after the tax authority had ruled out any further extension and maintained that taxpayers were required to submit their returns by September 30.

The latest decision effectively gives taxpayers an additional 15 days to complete and submit their income tax returns for Tax Year 2026.

The extension is expected to provide relief to taxpayers, businesses and tax practitioners who had sought additional time to complete the filing process.
