ISLAMABAD: Consumers will pay Rs1.54 more per litre for petrol and Rs2.16 more for high-speed diesel from October 27, with the government raising prices to Rs379.25 and Rs395.82, respectively, amid continuing cost-of-living pressures.

According to the Petroleum Division’s announcement on Monday, the new rates will apply from October 27 under the federal government’s petroleum pricing mechanism. The previous prices stood at Rs377.71 per litre for petrol and Rs393.66 for diesel.

The increase will raise expenses for commuters, private vehicle owners and commercial users. Motorcyclists and motorists will face higher petrol bills, while diesel users, including transport operators and businesses, will have to pay more to keep vehicles and machinery running.

A consumer purchasing 20 litres of petrol will pay an additional Rs30.80, while a buyer purchasing 50 litres of diesel will face an extra expense of Rs108 under the revised rates.

The increase in diesel prices could also put pressure on freight charges because road transportation plays a significant role in moving food, agricultural produce and other goods across the country. Any resulting increase in retail prices will depend on how transporters, suppliers and retailers respond to higher operating expenses.

The Petroleum Division said the adjustment had been necessitated by changes in international market factors, including Platts prices, premiums and incidental charges.

The latest increase comes at a time when households and businesses are already dealing with expenses related to energy, transportation and other necessities. The revised rates will remain applicable until the next scheduled review or any subsequent government announcement.
