ISLAMABAD: The government has announced the registration and fuel token procedure for availing Rs100 per litre petrol relief for eligible owners of motorcycles, rickshaws, Qingqi vehicles and small cars under the Prime Minister’s Fuel Relief Scheme.
According to the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, citizens seeking the relief will first have to register themselves by sending an SMS with “REG” followed by their CNIC number to 9771, along with the vehicle number, provincial code and vehicle registration date.
After registration, eligible applicants will have to obtain a fuel token to purchase petrol at the subsidised price. For this purpose, applicants will have to send “TOK” to 9771 through SMS.
The fuel token received in response will have to be presented at a designated petrol station to avail the petrol at the subsidised price.
According to the ministry, the petrol relief will start in Islamabad from the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, while citizens in other parts of the country will be able to avail the relief from the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.
Under the scheme, eligible citizens will receive a discount of Rs100 per litre on petrol. The monthly subsidised petrol limit has been set at 20 litres for motorcycles and Qingqi vehicles, while owners of cars up to 800cc will be eligible for up to 30 litres of subsidised petrol per month.
The digitally managed registration and token system has been introduced to identify eligible beneficiaries and ensure that the relief is provided to the intended consumers.
