ISLAMABAD: The government has reduced the price of petrol by Rs0.58 per litre and High Speed Diesel by Rs0.17 per litre, with the revised prices applicable for three days from August 29 to August 31, 2026.
According to the Petroleum Division, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority has revised the ex-depot prices of petroleum products under the revised petroleum pricing mechanism issued by the federal government.
The ex-depot price of Motor Spirit, commonly known as petrol, has been reduced from Rs342.60 to Rs342.02 per litre, reflecting a decrease of Rs0.58 per litre.
Meanwhile, the ex-depot price of High Speed Diesel has been reduced from Rs371.61 to Rs371.44 per litre, showing a decrease of Rs0.17 per litre.
The revised prices will remain applicable for only three days, from August 29 to August 31, 2026, limiting the duration of relief available to consumers.
Petrol is primarily used by motorcycles, private cars, taxis, rickshaws and other light vehicles across Pakistan. Changes in petrol prices therefore directly affect commuting and transportation expenses for millions of consumers.
High Speed Diesel is extensively used in trucks, buses, tractors, agricultural machinery, generators and other heavy-duty vehicles and equipment. Its price has a direct bearing on transportation, agriculture and industrial operating costs.
The transport sector is among the major consumers of diesel, with trucks and buses relying on the fuel for the movement of goods and passengers across the country. Changes in diesel prices can consequently affect freight and transportation costs.
Diesel is also widely used in agriculture, particularly for tractors, tube wells and other machinery. Any increase or decrease in its price can therefore affect farmers’ operating expenses.
Despite the latest revision, the relief remains limited, with petrol becoming cheaper by only 58 paisa per litre and HSD by 17 paisa per litre.
Under the latest revision, petrol will be available at Rs342.02 per litre while High Speed Diesel will be priced at Rs371.44 per litre from August 29 to August 31, 2026.
