ISLAMABAD: The Power Division has apologised to electricity consumers as temporary load management of 1.5 to 3 hours was carried out during nighttime peak hours following RLNG non-availability, delayed LNG cargo and a 195-megawatt decline in Mangla generation.

A spokesperson for the Power Division said the non-availability of RLNG, coupled with the delayed arrival of an LNG cargo, affected power generation by around 3,600 megawatts during the night.

The decline of another 195 megawatts in generation from Mangla further contributed to the shortage during peak hours.

In view of the reduced availability of electricity, temporary load management was undertaken during nighttime peak hours for periods ranging from 1.5 to 3 hours.

The spokesperson said the authorities also operated furnace oil-based power plants during peak hours to increase electricity generation and meet nighttime demand.

According to the Power Division, the temporary load management will be reduced once the RLNG cargoes arrive and the availability of the fuel improves.

Consumers have also been urged to moderate electricity consumption during nighttime peak hours so that pressure on the power system can be reduced and load management kept to a minimum.

The Power Division clarified that no load management is being carried out during daytime hours.

It said load management in areas affected by high distribution losses was continuing according to the scheduled programme.

The Power Division apologised to consumers for the temporary nighttime disruption and said the situation was linked to the non-availability of RLNG and delayed cargo arrival.
