ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet has approved the proposed local government system for Islamabad, paving the way for the legislation to be placed before Parliament for approval.
According to sources, the Islamabad Local Government Bill will be presented before the Senate Standing Committee on Interior tomorrow for consideration and approval.
Sources said the proposed local government system for Islamabad would comprise three constituencies. The councils would include representation for general councillors, women and minorities.
Following approval by the Senate Standing Committee on Interior, the bill will be presented before the Senate and the National Assembly for consideration and approval.
The proposed system is aimed at establishing a formal local government structure in the federal capital, with elected council representatives including general, women and minority members.
The legislation will require approval by the relevant parliamentary forums before the proposed local government system can be implemented in Islamabad.
