ISLAMABAD: Petrol pump owners in Pakistan have once again expressed concerns over the daily price adjustment mechanism for petroleum products, citing growing business difficulties and potential financial losses due to frequent price changes.

The All Pakistan Petrol Pump Owners Association has sought a meeting with Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik to discuss the challenges faced by petrol pump operators. The association has formally written to the minister, requesting consultations on the existing pricing mechanism.

According to the association, frequent changes in petroleum product prices are creating financial uncertainty for petrol pump owners and making it difficult to determine the value of their existing fuel stocks.

The association said daily price adjustments were also affecting cash flow and inventory management, while creating uncertainty in the purchase and sale of petroleum products. It added that repeated price changes were disrupting routine business operations.

The association has called for a practical and transparent mechanism for determining petroleum product prices to address the concerns of petrol pump owners and ensure the smooth supply of fuel to consumers.

In its letter, the association stressed the need to consult petrol pump operators before making decisions regarding fuel pricing. It also urged the government to protect the interests of petrol pump owners while ensuring an uninterrupted supply of petroleum products to the public.

The association said its representatives wanted to present the industry’s problems and propose practical solutions during a meeting with the federal petroleum minister.

The letter was written by Nauman Ali Butt, vice chairman of the All Pakistan Petrol Pump Owners Association.

The development highlights growing concerns within the retail petroleum sector over the operational and financial implications of frequent fuel price adjustments.
