ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will showcase its critical minerals and emerging mining projects to international investors at the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum (PMIF) 2026, as the government seeks to attract capital for exploration, mine development, infrastructure and mineral processing.

The two-day forum will be held in Islamabad on November 12 and 13, bringing together government officials, mining companies, investors, financiers and technical experts to discuss investment opportunities and challenges facing Pakistan’s mining sector.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to deliver a keynote address, while Chief of Army Staff and Chief Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir is listed to address the forum. Federal Minister for Energy (Petroleum Division) Ali Pervaiz Malik is scheduled to deliver the welcome address.

OGDCL CEO and PMIF President Ahmed Hayat Lak is scheduled to deliver the closing remarks at the conclusion of the two-day event.

The forum will focus on ways to convert Pakistan’s mineral potential into investable projects, with sessions covering critical minerals, exploration financing, geological data, infrastructure, skills development, mineral processing and value addition.

The opening session, “Building Investor-Ready Mining Jurisdictions”, will examine the policy and institutional framework required to attract long-term investment into mining.

Discussions will cover policy certainty, local content, value creation, skills development and regional cooperation, particularly in the context of large and capital-intensive mining projects.

A separate session will focus on Pakistan’s next-generation mining projects and major discoveries from active licences, including developments involving antimony and the steps required to move discoveries towards commercial production.

Reko Diq is also expected to feature prominently in discussions on large-scale mineral development, investment requirements, infrastructure and technical capabilities.

The forum will also examine infrastructure requirements for mining projects, including rail connectivity, electricity, water, security, export routes and CPEC connectivity.

Another key area will be geological data, with Pakistan’s Geological Survey and international geological organisations expected to discuss technical cooperation and data sharing.

The programme also places significant emphasis on mineral processing and value addition. The technical conference accompanying PMIF 2026 will feature more than 50 peer-reviewed papers covering exploration, resource assessment, critical minerals, processing, technology and sustainability.

The agenda includes copper, lithium, nickel, cobalt, graphite and rare earth elements, as well as beneficiation, processing technologies, automation, waste reduction and recovery of by-products.

The forum will also feature the National Minerals Capability Development Programme, highlighting the need to develop domestic expertise in geology, mining engineering, mineral processing and environmental management as investment in the sector expands.
