ISLAMABAD: The All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance has announced a 7% increase in freight charges, citing a sharp rise in diesel and petrol prices over the past week.
President of the All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance Malik Shahzad Awan said freight charges would be increased by 7% following the substantial increase in fuel prices.
He said diesel prices had increased by Rs26.88 per litre over the past seven days, while the price of petrol had risen by Rs20 per litre during the same period.
Malik Shahzad said the increase in fuel prices had significantly raised the operating costs of goods transporters, making an adjustment in freight charges necessary.
The increase in goods transport charges is likely to put additional pressure on the prices of essential commodities, as higher transportation costs can feed into the cost of moving food and other consumer goods.
The announcement comes after the government increased the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs3.47 per litre on September 18, taking its price to Rs424.92 per litre.
The latest increase in diesel prices has added to the pressure on the transport sector, which relies heavily on HSD for the movement of goods across the country.
The transporters’ decision to raise freight charges is expected to affect the cost of transporting essential commodities and other goods, with the potential impact ultimately reaching consumers.
